Our informal Knitting and Spinning Groups meet every Monday in the Pottery Room at 7.30pm.

The next Guild meeting is on Saturday, 6 May 2017 in the Barn Hall of the Amersham Community Centre. We meet at 2 for 2.30pm.

A fabulous fibre! An introduction to cotton and cotton spinning by hand with Sarah Wroot

This will be a Cotton Sampler with a powerpoint presentation and demonstration of cotton spinning on different devices lasting about 45-60 minutes followed by a mini workshop on cotton spinning.

There will be sample packs £5 each including merino wool (to start with), cotton seeds, ginned cotton, punis, and sample lengths of different slivers – they’re expensive because the seed cotton and some slivers come from the US. Also a smaller selection of fibres in bags costing about £3 for people who just want to ‘have a go’.

If you want to try your hand at cotton please bring a wheel or other spinning device set up to spin as fine a yarn as possible. ‘Drop’ spindles are not ideal, but high whorls can be used for park & draft, which works well.

As always we will have a raffle. If you have anything to sell it can go on the sale table.

Please come and join in and enjoy the company of like minded friends.
